Ménière’s is complex, so the road to recovery can feel overwhelming. Rest assured, evidence shows that 85% of people get there. A new normal life is possible.

As Ménière’s evolves from multiple different causes, and often alongside other health conditions, the recovery process for each diagnosed individual must be multi-modal & individualised in wrap around.

Systemic inflammation is a central process for Ménière’s disease leading to endolymphatic hydrops, regardless of the multifactorial contributing factors or individual subtypes.

Food quality, gut health improvement, anti-inflammatory nutrition, targeted supplementation & lifestyle changes are vital for Ménière’s recovery.

My first vertigo attack (at Manapouri Hut on the Kepler Track) was in 2021. Early on I stumbled into walls, was nauseous in slow traffic, had brain fog & fatigue, unpredictable vertigo, experienced sound distortion & hyperacusis, tinnitus was layered by jet engine & sports whistle noise.

Amongst medication & movement, I focused on functional nutrition. I researched food quality, gut health, systemic inflammation, allergy, intolerance & autoimmune nutrition protocols. I have recovered and am managing well. My new normal is great & I appreciate life more than before.

I no longer need a hearing aid. Tinnitus is just a soft static I notice before sleep. I have no environmental sensitivity or sound distortion. I move confidently in any context and my work capacity has expanded. My overall health & energy have improved as I have learned how to eat well & prioritise self care.

It is complex, it can be overwhelming, it does take time (& resources) but recovery is achievable & so very worth it. Whether you are an MD warrior, a support person, a health care professional or an educator; I am really keen to connect and learn about your experience.
